Earle Johnston (Buzz) has been involved with music since he was a 7-year old soprano in his church choir near Cleveland, Ohio. Not long after that, he started taking piano lessons and at 15 he picked up the guitar and learned all about performing and competing. For years he was involved with local theatre, then country bands where he played rhythm guitar and provided vocal harmonies.
In 1985 Buzz started the chapter of his life devoted to barbershop and hasn’t slowed down since. Buzz has attended many barbershop schools of education to further his knowledge and experience in this uniquely American craft. He has been in numerous choruses and quartets, served as Assistant Director and Director for several choruses and stepped into the world of Sweet Adelines as Director to a chapter in Region 17.
Buzz has been honored and privileged to have competed on the International Barbershop competition stage in both a chorus (Singing Buckeyes of Columbus, Ohio) and a quartet (Spotlight, a Senior’s Quartet also from Columbus).
